I'm the kind of person who skips to the conversation when reading a book.
Ride up a crazy 8 story freestanding escalator and enter the world — at CNN headquarters in Atlanta.
What the picture fails to show are the armed guards EVERYWHERE — watching the food court, at every stairway, every hallway juncture. They had more guns there than Fort Knox. I guess the world is not a safe place.
“Are there always this many guards?” I asked the tour guide.
“No, just for this tour,” he smiled and laughed. It was a canned response, meant to be funny.
He continued, “CNN has a lot of sensitive information here. I heard they stepped up security after 9/11.”
That was nearly 15 years ago.
All I can say is that CNN headquarters felt a little like a 3rd world country. All the security did not make me feel safe.
